It’s Happening!

“One of the unwritten rules of any autism story is that it must begin with a perfect birth, to serve in dramatic contrast to the downfall that is coming. The baby is beautiful, the parents are full of joy and hope, and the nurses sprout wings and halos as the idyllic music swells over the hospital intercom.

That is not our story.”

The time is almost here! I’m unbelievably excited for this book to hit the shelves. I hope it makes you laugh, and if I’m being honest, I hope it makes you cry a little, too. That’s good sometimes. But mostly I hope it makes you hope. I hope it taps into and strengthens that part of you that smolders with defiant hope — the part of you that brought you to this website in the first place, looking for answers that a fair number of people must have already told you are not out there. I don’t claim to have all the answers, not by any stretch of the imagination, but I can humbly offer at least one possible alternative answer, one “yes” to their “no.” And if my “yes” causes you to whisper your own “yes” just a little louder, then all the work will have been worth it.

But with apologies to the great Lavar Burton… you don’t have to take my word for it:

“Careful and eloquent, honest and moving… Noonan’s work demonstrates why we should have the deepest respect and admiration for the parents.” — Dr. Andrey Rzhetsky, Professor of Medicine and Human Genetics, University of Chicago

“Jennifer Noonan picks up the gauntlet of Clara Claiborne Park and Bernard Rimland as devoted parents preparing for a marathon and finishing it… The book provides a guide path to those new to the world of autism, pioneers in their own right, as to what to expect and how best to proceed.” — Manuel F. Casanova, MD, University of South Carolina

“I read every word because it was so well written, and I learned a good deal from it… [Noonan’s] book would be very valuable for parents with their first exposure to autism of any type.” — Sydney M. Finegold, MD, Professor of Medicine, Professor of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics, UCLA School of Medicine

Also includes a special foreword by Richard E. Frye, MD, PhD, Director of Autism Research and the Autism Multispecialty Clinic, University of Arkansas
